Rodrigo Suárez


Rodrigo Suárez has a BFA in Graphic Design by Brigham Young University in Utah and began his graphic design career as a freelancer in the late 1990s. In 2005, he became part of the design team for Nike Timing, Vision and Tech Lab (later Nike+).

As part of this team, he traveled to China on a curation project for the 2008 Olympics. In 2008 he co-founded Arion Strategy, which later became Cocoa.

With both a design and art background from his years studying painting at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City, Rodrigo creates images that speak to contemporary audiences with emotional impact and appeal. Past a decade into his career, these images have come to be visually identified with the increasingly recognized style of Cocoa.

Rodrigo has developed identity and branding systems, promotional materials, environmental graphics, packaging and publication designs for a broad range of clients that includes, among others, Nike, Johnson & Johnson, Calle Republic and Aon.


Daniela Arcila


Educated in Graphic Design in 3DMX Digital Design University in Guadalajara, Mexico, Daniela’s practice has been notable for crossing media genres, from animation to design. For two consecutive years, (2009-2010) she was awarded First Place at the Infomatrix Festival, in Bucarest, Romania in the animated short-film category. Her love for hard work and her steadfast personal discipline, coupled to an exceptional talent, have shaped her career rapidly, as she has become not only a wonderful art director, but also a fabulous new talent mentor. Patient and dedicated in everything she puts her eye on, she will soon be rewarded with one of the most expected blessings of her life: her daughter Maya.


Gabriela Garza


Gabriela graduated in 1997 with a degree in computer science from the University of Guadalajara. In 2008 she became Cocoa’s first associate and soon after she became a partner in the firm.

Gabriela heads all our business activities and supervises our human resources. She also acts as our business controller.


Marcela Gutiérrez


Marcela is responsible for the financial operations of the studio. She works closely with the design team in the procurement phase of each project and oversees the creation of vendor contracts, purchase orders and payment and delivery schedules. Marcela’s detail-oriented nature provides for streamlined accounting principles and continual checks and balances when handling our budgets. Two years ago, Marcela emerged from University of the Valley of Atemajac armed with a degree in business administration.If you’re on for winning her heart, she has a particular weakness for dry-cured Spanish ham and cantaloupe pizza.


Lizi Parada


Born in Michoacán and raised in Guadalajara, Lizi studied marketing at the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESO), but took a sabbatical from school to become mother of her beloved Matías. Lately, she has become interested in exploring the branding world, thus becoming our new design intern. A natural curious mind and a talented singer, Lizi also holds a secret passion for fashion design and barbacoa tacos.


David Zavala


David Zavala studied graphic design at 3DMX Digital Design University. Prior to joining Cocoa in 2009, he worked for The Graphic Door in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he produced many projects combining graphics with three-dimensional design.

David’s design is known for its simplicity, honesty and typographical beauty, and often portrays the essential qualities of the object or topic he is representing. His team’s work encompasses a wide variety of assignments and media, including identities, environmental graphics, exhibitions and communications design.

David has received accolades from design associations around the world, including the 1st. Place at the Infomatrix Animation Contest in Bucarest, Romania, in 2009.


Clara Esperalba


Originally from Catalonia, Spain, and recently beginning her Mexican adventure, Clara holds a degree in Art & Design from the Massana School in Barcelona. Ever from her early contact with the world of design, has seized every opportunity to share her unique perspective on the use of contrast, whether it be through drawing, illustration or artifact work, were she enjoys stretching the boundaries between flat and three-dimensional objects. Joining Cocoa came in as part of her continuous quest for learning and sharing her unique world perspective from the design standpoint. A skilled designer and illustrator, Clara is also a gifted singer, and eager to share her talent, especially if asked to sing in her native Catalán.


Omar Chavarría


In 2014, Omar was elected among 100+ candidates to collaborate in the Digital Invaders interactive design project. He went on to work for Popinsky, where he specialized in packaging projects. He was a co-founder of Playbox, where he worked on the post-production of Sueños MX, a Mexican soccer-themed film. In his free time, he enjoys collaborating with Ritmos Gordos, a music blog specialized in beatmaking and Mexican hip hop trends. Omar holds a graphic design degree from the Autonomous University of Coahuila.
